Fitness MOT

Functional Fitness MOT

WHY A FITNESS MOT?

The Functional Fitness MOT is an easy way to help you identify ways to improve your fitness - to suit your priorities in life.

Its ideally suited for those over 60 who may feel that their fitness has reduced in recent months - especially due to lockdown / restrictions.

The MOT has been designed so that you can do 8 basic tests at home. We can provide telephone / remote support as required.

What is Functional Fitness?

Functional fitness allows us to do the things we want and need to do as we age. This includes having sufficient fitness to perform everyday tasks around the house (e.g. getting out of your chair, stair climbing, housework tasks and gardening) as well as the activities that we chose to do, (e.g. working, getting out and about in the local community, staying in touch with friends, continuing with our social and recreational activities and caring for others).

Doing these things safely, confidently and regularly will help us maintain our health and wellbeing and enjoy each day to the full.

What does it involve?

The Functional Fitness MOT at Home involves:

  • Undertaking 8 easy to do assessments (which can be undertaken at home) that will give you an indication of your current functional fitness performance.
  • Thinking about your own abilities (e.g., strength, balance, endurance, flexibility), how well you are currently doing and what you would like to be able to do
  • Telephone support to help you plan a programme of improvement.

What will happen?

We know an MOT is an annual check to see if everything (in our car!) is working properly. Think of the Functional Fitness MOT as a similar check which also comes with results and additional help to think about what might not be working so well and what you could do about it!

The only difference is that by taking the MOT over time your results will improve!
